Product Developer / Buyer

Manchester - Office Based

This is an exciting time to join our client, a leading nursery brand based in Manchester. They specialise in beautifully designed products and are passionate about creating products that blend style, functionality, with safety at the forefront. The Role

They are now looking for a Product Developer to join their small but dynamic team. This role is perfect for a highly creative individual with an excellent eye for product trends, strong commercial awareness, and experience in Far East sourcing and factory visits. You will take full ownership of the product development cycle, from concept to production, ensuring that our designs meet both consumer demand and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and analyse emerging trends in nursery furniture and baby products, translating insights into commercially viable product designs.
  • Develop innovative and market-leading products that align with the brand vision.
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers, primarily in the Far East, to oversee product development and production.
  • Negotiate costs, lead times, and quality standards with suppliers to ensure profitability and efficiency.
  • Conduct factory visits to ensure production capabilities, ethical standards, and quality control.
  • Manage the end-to-end product development process, from initial concept, administration and set up to final production and product compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including marketing, sales and merchandising, to ensure product success in the market.
  • Solve development and production challenges proactively, balancing quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of competitor activity and consumer preferences.

About You

  • A creative thinker with a strong eye for product trends and aesthetics.
  • Proven experience in product development, ideally within the baby/nursery, furniture, or homeware sectors.
  • Experience in Far East sourcing, factory liaison, and international travel.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, with a results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a culture of empowerment and accountability.
