Assistant Buyer

Location: Greater Manchester - commutable from Salford, Manchester, Bolton

Our client, a market leading supplier to the retail industry now has an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Buyer to join their team.

The main role of the Assistant Buyer is to develop and deploy a sound category strategy, to demonstrate expertise and understanding of the products in your category in order to generate savings, drive sales, introduce innovation and sustainable alternatives for our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to drive improvements in commercial value through creative thinking and ambitious procurement initiatives
  • Develop and deploy Category Strategies for category portfolio
  • Improve our working capital position by negotiating improved payment terms and payment deferrals
  • Negotiate supplier pricing to ensure best total cost of ownership for the business.
  • Drive customer cost savings via rate reductions, resourcing, value engineering and cost in use projects
  • Source new products and suppliers to drive growth and reduce costs
  • Carry out range reviews, delivering product development, innovation, sustainable alternatives, simplification and cost savings
  • Manage tender submissions and product enquiries
  • Manage supplier relationships and drive supplier development
  • Support supply chain to maintain continuity of supply and ensure a robust supply chain
  • Support the technical services team to drive supplier performance and continuous improvement

The successful candidate will need to have previous experience working as an Assistant Buyer or a Purchasing Assistant - You will possess excellent negotiating skills as well as experience in procurement as well as solid communication and articulation skills and attention to detail is key.
