Location: Manchester

About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor from a house building or main contracting background to support the commercial and financial management of construction projects. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career in quantity surveying, gaining hands-on experience while working alongside experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports.
  • Support the procurement process, including obtaining and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Assist in contract administration and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Help with the assessment of project variations, change orders, and interim valuations.
  • Monitor project costs and provide regular financial updates to senior team members.
  • Assist in managing payments, invoices, and financial documentation.
  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Participate in risk assessments and help identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Gain experience with standard construction contracts such as JCT and NEC.

Requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or currently working towards one).
  • Some experience in a similar role or a strong desire to build a career in quantity surveying.
  • Knowledge of construction costs, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative when needed.
