Job Title: Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Role Overview:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor with an interest or experience in building envelope systems to join our growing team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support the commercial management of projects involving roofing, cladding, glazing, and other building envelope solutions while developing your skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in Cost Management:

    • Assist in preparing and maintaining project budgets and cost plans for building envelope projects.
    • Help in monitoring costs, identifying potential savings, and ensuring financial targets are met.
    • Contribute to the preparation of regular cost reports for internal and client use.
  • Tendering and Procurement Assistance:

    • Support the preparation of tender documents, cost estimates, and bills of quantities.
    • Assist in evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids for building envelope packages.
    • Help manage procurement schedules to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Contract Administration:

    • Assist in the review and management of contracts, including JCT and NEC agreements.
    • Support the preparation and assessment of variations, claims, and final accounts.
    • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor and project teams to ensure alignment on cost and project objectives.
    • Attend site meetings, taking notes and assisting in addressing commercial issues.
    • Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Learning and Development:

    • Gain knowledge of building envelope systems, materials, and installation methods.
    • Assist with risk assessments and value engineering to improve project cost-efficiency.
    • Develop proficiency in cost management software and industry best practices.

Requirements:

  • Some experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally with exposure to building envelope projects (roofing, cladding, glazing).
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC) and basic understanding of building regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and willingness to learn industry-specific software (e.g., CostX).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a proactive attitude.
  • Relevant academic qualifications (e.g., a degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field).
  • A desire to grow and progress in a Quantity Surveying career.
