Main duties and responsibilities:

Reporting to a Senior QS we see the key duties and responsibilities of the project QS to be as follows:

  • Pre and post contract administration including tendering and procurement, value engineering, cost reporting, valuation and accounts
  • Sound understanding of structure of contracts and ability to produce and administer same
  • Managing sub-contract packages from procurement through to final account
  • Issuing sub-contract valuations & payment notices
  • Issuing main contract valuations, undertake valuation meetings on site with client QS
  • Participate in client meetings, sub-contract account meetings and client commercial meetings
  • Cost reporting - including producing sub-contract liabilities, tracking project preliminary cost vs. budgets and other financial controls (eg CVR’s)
  • Assisting Senior QS with formulating CVR’s
  • Assisting estimators and pre-contract team with bids
  • Management of trainee, graduate, entry level QS

Key Attributes:

  • Be reliable, trustworthy and proactive, with an enthusiastic approach to work and learning, with good punctuation and attendance
  • Have strong organisation and communication skills, with a methodical approach and a good attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the Construction industry processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of building materials, techniques and systems
  • Carry out and complete tasks using own initiative
  • Extensive knowledge of the construction industry processes and procedure
  • Thorough knowledge of current forms of contract
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
  • Appreciation of the various types of main contract procurement
  • Have good knowledge of measurement software (i.e. bluebeam or similar)
  • Have good knowledge of the various types of common forms of main contract and sub-contract (NEC/JCT)
  • Willingness to develop career
  • Experience of working with a Contractor (Ideally with 5 years with fit-out / commercial refurb & new build experience)
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying (BSc Hons)
