Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor specialising in new-build section 278 and infrastructure schemes across the UK.

With over 25 years' experience in highway and drainage works, they offer more than your standard main contractor. Their professionally qualified engineers use their key expertise to deal with the multi-faced complexities of Section 278 projects, ensuring all works are completed 'right first time' with projects signed off by the council and placed straight onto their maintenance period.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding Civil Engineering business which specialises in delivering Section 278 and Infrastructure works. The Estimator / Quantity Surveyor will play a crucial role in reviewing the tendering opportunities we receive by accurately estimating the costs associated with the Civil Engineering projects.

The recruitment process will be conducted in such a way as to result in the selection of the most suitable person for the job in terms of relevant experience, abilities, and qualifications.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed and accurate take-offs and cost estimates for Civil Engineering projects, including but not limited to roads, highway drainage, street lighting and traffic signals.
  • Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documents to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Working to deadlines to ensure we meet our client's needs.
  • Utilise industry-standard estimating software and tools to prepare accurate cost estimates, ensuring compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Sub-Contractors to gather the necessary information and input detail for cost estimation.
  • Evaluate material, labour and equipment costs to determine the most cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality standards.
  • Identify and quantify project risks and contingencies to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, site visits and negotiations with clients and subcontractors as needed.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, market conditions and cost factors to ensure competitiveness and accuracy.
  • Assist in value engineering initiatives to optimise project costs without compromising quality or performance.

Environment and Working Hours

  • The office is an open-plan environment with parking on-site
  • Company core office hours are 8.30 am until 5.00 pm (4:30pm on Fridays)
