Lead Control Systems Engineer

Are you an experienced control systems engineer with expertise in PLC and SCADA systems Do you have a passion for automation and leading technical projects Our client, a specialist in industrial automation consultancy, is looking for a Lead Control Systems Engineer to take charge of engineering operations and project delivery across manufacturing and process industries.

As a key member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for developing, integrating, and maintaining industrial control and information systems, as well as supporting business growth initiatives. This role requires technical leadership, project management, and client engagement, making it an exciting opportunity for an engineer looking to make a tangible impact and develop their career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and technical direction for the engineering function.
  • Conduct site audits and assess client systems against best practices.
  • Configure, test, and commission PLC and SCADA-based control systems.
  • Develop testing procedures and oversee in-house and client-witnessed testing.
  • Maintain and develop engineering procedures, processes, and documentation.
  • Provide maintenance services, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery support.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute to sales and marketing activities.
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost quotations, and proposals for clients.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in PLC and SCADA programming, configuration, and implementation.
  • Strong background in industrial automation and control systems.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage engineering workloads.
  • Experience conducting site audits and providing client recommendations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK, including occasional overnight stays.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of open protocol integration for automation systems.
  • Experience in preparing sales proposals and contributing to business growth.
  • Exposure to a variety of industries such as manufacturing, process control, or utilities.
