Agenda are currently seeking an experienced licensed animal technician to work within our clients Biological Resource Unit (BRU). The aim of the role is to provide day to day care and welfare monitoring for the mice housed in the research facility and to work alongside the research groups to support their work and to provide technical support to project license holders and other licensees. The BRU provides technical support for a wide range of in vivo oncology models in accordance with ASPA 1986.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out day to day husbandry and care and welfare observations for all animals within the facility
- Conduct surgical and non-surgical licensed procedures within the authorities of the project licenses held at the establishment
- Make observation, keep accurate records and capture data in writing or electronically
- Keep up to date with developments in animal technology; recommend and develop novel procedures as required
- Train other staff in licensed and non-licensed techniques
- Contribute towards the general cleaning and upkeep of the facility and monitor and record environmental conditions in specific areas
- Commit to the rota for weekend and bank holiday cover
Essential Requirements
- HND or Degree in Animal Technology or related subject or equivalent experience
- Home Office Personal License A+B
- Up to date knowledge of lab animal technology, care, accommodation, husbandry and welfare on rodents
- Competent in some non-surgical regulated procedures and post mortem skills
- Familiar with current legislation and the ethical principles of using animals for scientific purposes
- Organisation, time management and communication skills

- IAT Membership
- Home Office Personal License PIL C
- Experience working with oncology laboratory animal models
- Competent in a range of surgical skills
- Competent in the use of data collection software
