Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Manchester-based SEND school that supports pupils aged between 11 - 19 with complex and profound needs, as they require a motivated and experienced teaching assistant to support across the KS3 classes.

Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a number of pupils across KS3 on a 1:1 basis. The pupils you will be supporting have a variety of needs, including ASD, non-verbal, behavioural and sensory requirements. As you will be supporting different pupils, you will be required to take a pupil-centred approach to education, ensure that their individual needs and personalities are met. You will closely monitor and identify pupil triggers, enabling you to implement suited behaviour strategies. Other duties will include, but may not be limited to; brain breaks, sensory therapy, assisted toileting, interventions (behavioural and attainment) and liaison with parents/guardians.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience supporting pupils within a mainstream or SEND school setting within the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEN is essential
  • Experience implementing positive behaviour strategies
  • Experience using PECs and Makaton
