Organisations work with individuals sleeping rough, providing them with practical support, advocacy, and access to vital services. Their mission is to reduce homelessness and empower those we serve to rebuild their lives.
The Role
As a Street Homeless Outreach Worker, you will be at the frontline of efforts to support rough sleepers, engaging with individuals directly on the streets and in areas where they are known to sleep. You will work as part of a dedicated team, building trust with service users and helping them to access housing, healthcare, and other essential services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach shifts, engaging with rough sleepers in designated areas.
- Build trusting relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Provide advice on housing options, benefits, and available support services.
- Work closely with local authorities, housing providers, health services, and other agencies to secure appropriate support for clients.
- Maintain accurate records and case notes to track progress and inform service delivery.
- Advocate on behalf of service users, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld.
- Promote harm reduction and well-being strategies tailored to individuals' needs.
The candidate
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness. You will be a strong communicator, able to engage effectively with vulnerable individuals and work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders.
- Experience working with vulnerable people, preferably in a homelessness, social care, or outreach setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Knowledge of homelessness issues, safeguarding, and support services.
- Ability to work flexibly, including early mornings and late evenings as required.
- Good record-keeping and IT skills for case management and reporting.
- A non-judgemental and empathetic approach to supporting service users.
- Experience in advocacy or navigating housing and benefits systems.
- Training in mental health, substance misuse, or trauma-informed care.
- A valid driving license and access to a vehicle for work.
