Secondary PRU Youth Worker Chorlton Prospero teaching are working with a Pupil Referral Unit in Chorlton, the school deals with students with additional needs and mental health issues It is an Outreach role - so it will mainly be out in the community and bringing the education to the hardest to reach students. The pupils are age 11-16 years old KS3/4 secondary all with EHCP plans and additional needs. The pupils have usually experienced some form of trauma, neglect or chaotic home life or all of these things. Your role is to build a connection with the young people and act and a mentor and role model for the students. You must have a strong TA or Tutoring background with students from PRUs or SEMH schools, and you also need to drive and have access to your own car for this role. Due to the barriers the pupils have in the classroom, the role will entail forging strong relationships with pupils. The role will see you using lots of mentoring skills (similar to that used in sports, drama, counselling) to help the individual engage with the school. You will support the pupil in the classroom and out of the classroom on a more vocational basis. The position is open to all experienced and those who have a strong background in mentoring children and young adults. Depending on performance, the school would look at either extending the contract or offering a permanent position.
