Main Purpose of the Job and Role for a Residential Care Worker The role of residential care worker is to assist the homes in achieving organisational objectives and aims set within the homes Statement of Purpose, whilst keeping in mind the values of the company. Under the direction of the Senior Residential care workers and the homes deputy manager residential care workers are to work together in achieving positive outcomes for all children and young people within the service by delivering the needs of care to the children and young people within the home. On a day-to-day basis, the residential care workers will support all aspects of care and for the children and young including daily routines, support with hobbies and activities, direct work and keywork sessions, along with providing opportunities for the children and young people to develop. Along with providing good quality care, it ensures all children and young people's needs are met in a fair and appropriate way. Duties and Responsibilities of a Residential Care Worker To work on a rota basis according to the needs of young peopleEnsuring that each young person's care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needsAttending to practical matters in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning etc) Keeping accurate records and providing written reports on young people for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by the line managerMeeting the physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs of young people Providing support for young people in their education and extracurricular activitiesEmpowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and futureActing as a role model and demonstrating appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problemsEncouraging the young person to develop links with the community, attend off-site activities and expand their personal social network.Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress.Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regards.Helping young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct. Taking responsibility for a small number of young people and ensuring that their needs are fully met.Establishing relationships which young people perceive to be positive, warm and rewardingContributing to team meetings Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficultiesBeing ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and optimise their potential.Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussionAttending childcare reviews and planning meetings where appropriate to provide information and achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as an appropriate role model.Qualifications and experience Residential Care Worker Desirable:Current driving licenceNVQ Level 3, 4 Children and Young PeopleEssential:Good communication SkillsGood standard of literacy and numeracyGCSE qualification Experience essential:Previous experience of working with children and young people or care givingKnowledge & Skills Residential Care Worker Desirable:Training SkillsCounselling Skills Therapeutic Parenting Experience Experience of acting as an appropriate adult (PACE)Drugs Awareness TrainingEssential:Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
