Housing Management Officer

Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced Housing Officer to provide exceptional housing management services and high-quality accommodation to homeless households. This role is crucial for ensuring the well-being and compliance of tenants and requires proactive collaboration with support workers and other team members.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Work cooperatively with tenants and their support workers on housing management matters.
  • Contribute to the team's objectives by providing information to assist in the assessment of referrals.
  • Monitor occupants’ compliance with their occupancy agreements, house rules, and any court orders, taking prompt action in response to breaches.
  • Manage, monitor, and maximise collections for rent, utilities, and miscellaneous charges, maintaining appropriate records and reporting regularly to the Deputy Team Leader.
  • Monitor the progress of occupants’ Housing Benefit claims and work closely with Manchester Revenue and Benefits Unit to advise tenants appropriately.
  • Manage the processes of starting, operating, and ending tenancies, including the service and administration of Notices to Quit.
  • Coordinate with occupants and support workers on support planning related to tenancy management.
  • Arrange day-to-day responsive repairs, manage re-lets, and oversee the repair or replacement of furnishings in consultation with the team and partner services.
  • Promote and support service user inclusion, empowerment, consultation, and participation in all aspects of the service and wider community.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures, identifying, minimising, and managing risks.
  • Maintain clear, concise, professional, and auditable records in accordance with City Council procedures and financial regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Valid enhanced DBS on the update service.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Experience in housing management or a related field.
  • Strong ability to work cooperatively and effectively with different teams and agencies.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
