We have a fantastic opportunity for a Housing Options Officer at Bolton Council, this is a full-time Temporary role for the next 2 - 3 months, with the possibility of extension.
What is the role?
Bolton Council are looking for a Housing Options Officer, to deliver high quality housing options and advice to homeless households and others in housing need. To also assist vulnerable customers to access and engage in services; offering advice and support on all options; advocating and negotiating on behalf of customers; and work closely with other agencies externally & internally in order to provide options, prevent and relieve homelessness and to provide for the needs of households.Â
What are your responsibilities?
- Provide all aspects of casework from contact / initial application, assessment, decision, provision of prevention and relief assistance.
- Assist vulnerable customers to access and engage in services; offering advice and support on all options; advocating and negotiating on behalf of customers; and
- Work closely with other agencies externally and internally to provide options, prevent, and relieve homelessness and to provide for other household needs.
- Be required to undertake home visits for some customers to assist with the prevention of homelessness.
- Excellent communication and networking skills to build positive relationships and support customers to take ownership in addressing their housing and other needs.
- Understanding, knowledge and awareness of housing need, homelessness issues, relevant legal context and associated service provision.
- Excellent casework practice and strive for best practice in support of the team and service.
- Initiative, be effective in organising, planning, and prioritising and be able to demonstrate a track record of making appropriate decisions and securing positive outcomes with complex casework.
What skills do you Need?
- Must have recent experience of working as a Housing Options Officer, or Homelessness Officer for the Local Authority or Housing Association.
- Strong IT Skills, as you will be using Microsoft Office, and internal Council IT Systems.
- Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
- Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle
- Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service
