We have a fantastic opportunity for a Housing Options Support Officer at Bolton Council, this is a full-time temporary role for the next 2 – 3 months with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Bolton Council are looking for a Housing Options Support Officer, to provide a range of administrative and reception support across the housing options and advice services, providing direct customer contact and relevant advice and assistance.  To assist in providing a comprehensive reception and enquiry service, receive and deal with customer enquiries in person, in a range of settings by phone and other media; providing initial screening / assessment; supervising the reception area as appropriate including queue management processes; appointment / interview diary management; receipt and checking of relevant documentation

What are your responsibilities?

  • To take overall management responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the home and staff to ensure that the home meets the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality standards.
  • Maintain all relevant database / ICT systems and customer records in a timely and accurate manner, retrieving and sharing information appropriately across the service and with external partner agencies.
  • To work in conjunction with & support other Community Housing Services staff in delivery services as a whole.
  • Contribute to the effective delivery and development of the service.
  • To assist in providing a comprehensive reception and enquiry service, receive and deal with customer enquiries in person, in a range of settings by phone and other media; providing initial screening / assessment; supervising the reception area as appropriate including queue management processes; appointment / interview diary management; receipt and checking of relevant documentation
  • Dealing with often complex (internal and external) customer enquiries, seeking appropriate information where necessary to offer appropriate advice/ assistance in relation to those enquiries and the services provided by Housing Options and Advice services, including where appropriate advising customers in relation to:
  • Relevant information and advice on services, policy and procedure, and appropriate advice to customers about assistance offered by Housing Options and Advice services.
  • Their housing application and the allocation / re-housing process.
  • Availability of accommodation and other options.
  • Appropriate signposting and referral to a range of other agencies.
  • Homelessness assistance and the applicant’s current circumstances.
  • Arrangement of any necessary appointments for more detailed advice and assistance; and
  • Any conditions of residence in circumstances where customers are provided temporary and/or supported accommodation assistance.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Housing Options Support Officer, ideally for the local authority or housing association.
  • Strong IT Skills, as you will be using Microsoft Office, and internal council IT systems
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
  • Excellent Telephone manner
  • There may be the possibility of Hybrid working in the future, depending on how you get on in the role
