PHP Software Engineer - Manchester

Are you a talented PHP software engineer with a passion for solving complex problems and creating impactful solutions? This role offers the chance to join a dynamic engineering team, working on cutting-edge server systems.

This is a newly created role to join an established and expanding software house based near Stretford.

About the Role

This position focuses on the development, enhancement, and maintenance of a large fleet of VPN servers, utilising a combination of open-source and custom software on the Linux platform. Automation tools like Puppet and Terraform play a key role in delivering these capabilities. You'll collaborate with a technical lead, platform engineering manager, and other team members to ensure the systems provide a seamless user experience.

The role also offers opportunities to explore other technologies, expand your knowledge, and contribute to a culture of innovation.

Experience Required:

Previous expertise in backend development with PHP or Python, scripting, and Linux systems management and AWS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend systems for server monitoring and data capture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and contribute to architectural design.
  • Write clean, testable code and adhere to modern development practices like CI/CD and unit testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system and network performance issues.
  • Research and implement creative solutions to technical challenges.

About You

  • Proficiency in backend development and scripting (PHP or Python).
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems management
  • Experience with API integration for cloud server management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with VPN servers and HTTP proxy systems
