Software Engineer - PHP - Manchester

Are you a Software Engineer with a passion for open-source technology such as PHP, Linux and a drive to work on innovative real-time solutions? We're looking for several Software Engineer from with PHP experience to join our growing client in Manchester! Ideally, I am looking for a PHP developer experienced in building real-time applications with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Sybase

Experience required:

  • Be an Open-Source Enthusiast, i.e. have hands-on experience with open-source technologies, particularly PHP, JavaScript, jQuery and Linux
  • Knowledge of WebSockets, Redis Pub/Sub, and message brokers like RabbitMQ
  • Experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) infrastructure
  • Swoole or Ratchet for async PHP processing, and familiarity with event-driven architectures and RESTful API optimization would be a bonus
  • Enjoy collaborating, sharing knowledge, and learning from others.
  • Any experience around SQL, Python & C# would also be a of interest
  • If you come from cloud background in AWS this would be bonus, as would be some DevOps knowledge

They are a dynamic software team of six, focused on developing cutting-edge solutions in the telecommunications industry. As part of the team, you'll work with the latest open-source technologies to create scalable, high-performance applications that power real-time communication solutions.

  • Hands-On Development - Work on new projects from the ground up, using technologies like PHP, JavaScript, JQuery and Linux.
  • Team Collaboration - Join a supportive and skilled team where you can build your expertise and contribute to meaningful projects.
  • Hybrid Work Setup - Balance office collaboration (approx. 2 days per week in Manchester) with flexible remote work.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and maintain software applications in PHP, and other open-source tools on mainly Linux platforms. Build scalable, real-time applications using frameworks like Swoole and Workerman for asynchronous PHP processing.
  • Collaborate with the team to design and implement high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Work on both backend and frontend tasks, with opportunities to specialize over time.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the team's overall code quality.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies to bring fresh ideas and best practices to the team.
  • Implement Asynchronous Processing & Real-Time Messaging - Use WebSockets, message brokers (e.g., Redis Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ), and push notifications for real-time data and client updates.
