About the Role:

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Youth Workers and Support Workers to join our team, working in a primary school to provide support to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners, helping them to reach their full potential in an inclusive, supportive school environment.

The roles are available on both short-term and long-term contracts, allowing flexibility based on your experience and availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting SEN & SEMH Children: Work directly with children who have special educational needs, supporting their academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
  • Implementing Individualised Support Plans: Assist in the delivery of tailored learning plans, providing one-to-one or small group support in line with each child’s specific needs.
  • Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Help to maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment where children feel valued, included, and motivated to learn.
  • Behavioural Support: Offer practical strategies and interventions to manage challenging behaviour, ensuring that students can engage with learning and interact positively with peers.
  • Collaboration with Teachers and Professionals: Work closely with teaching staff, SEN coordinators, and other professionals (e.g. educational psychologists) to ensure effective communication and support for children.
  • Monitoring Progress: Track the development of children under your care, providing feedback and insights to teachers and parents to inform progress reports.
  • Supporting Social Skills Development: Help children develop key social skills, including communication, teamwork, and emotional regulation.
  • Safeguarding: Be vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children at all times, following school safeguarding policies and procedures.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience working with children, ideally in an educational, youth work, or care setting. Experience working with children with SEN/SEMH is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with children, parents, and staff.
  • Patience & Empathy: A compassionate and patient approach to supporting children with additional needs, with the ability to understand and adapt to individual circumstances.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic support.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to different educational environments, whether short-term or long-term, and to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Enhanced DBS Check: All candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check to work in a school setting.
