Key Responsibilities of an SEN Support Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for students with special educational needs (SEN), ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in lessons.
  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to deliver tailored support to meet individual students’ needs.
  • Support students with a range of SEN, including autism, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Assist with the delivery of specific interventions to support students’ academic and personal development.
  • Support students with personal care needs when required, in line with school policies.
  • Liaise with parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.

The Ideal SEN Support Assistant Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN in a primary school setting.
  • A passion for working with children and a strong commitment to supporting their development.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards overcoming challenges.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or SEN) is desirable but not essential.
  • A willingness to develop professionally and learn new skills.
