Job Overview:

The successful candidate will work closely with students who have social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, providing tailored support to help them engage positively in their education. This role is critical in creating a nurturing and structured environment that promotes learning and personal growth for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs on a 1:1 or small group basis.
  • Develop and implement personalized behaviour management plans, working collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging self-regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Provide in-class support to help students engage with the curriculum and maintain focus.
  • Facilitate restorative approaches to manage conflict and promote understanding.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to address specific behavioural needs, such as anger management or social skills development.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families to foster a sense of belonging and partnership.
  • Monitor and report on students' progress, including their emotional and behavioural development.
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive school culture by supporting whole-school initiatives and reinforcing school policies.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, preferably in an SEN setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An understanding of behaviour management strategies and their application in a school environment.
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant certificate or behaviour management training (e.g., Team Teach).
  • Experience working with students with autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other additional needs.
  • Knowledge of restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches.
  • An understanding of de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
