We're looking for someone who; has an enquiring mind, who wants to use their skills to make a difference, is a passionate engineer who thrives on solving unique challenges, cares about the future and is committed to sustainability.

The role of Civil Engineer will involve:

  • Providing support and advice on engineering matters to the Principal Civil Engineers, Head of Engineering, other Heads of Department and Directors along with other teams within the Organisation.
  • Assessing factual and interpreted information arising from field observations, investigations, and review.
  • Fulfil the role of Designer or Principal Designer under CDM Regulations, including liaison with the Coal Authority's HSW team.
  • Develop viable technical options and associated costings and to assist with the production of the Project Justification documentation/feasibility reports where required.
  • Undertake detailed civil engineering design to current design standards including the preparation of drawings, schedules and specifications for internal and external clients.
  • Provide scope of works and specifications to allow contract documentation to be written. When required, be responsible for the preparation and administration of the engineering design or construction contract.
  • Responsible for the financial management of a project or contract where required.
  • Liaise with the Procurement Department to enable competitive tenders to be sought where non-framework or specialist contractors are required to be appointed.
  • To undertake designs and prepare specifications for civil engineering works.
  • Assess and minimise where possible the environmental impact of remedial works during and post construction.
  • Consider and champion sustainability for all projects and programmes through the design process.

The ideal candidate for the role of civil engineer will have the following experience:

  • Batchelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or higher)
  • Working towards corporate membership of an engineering institution (e.g. ICE/IStruct.E)
  • Experience in the design and specification of civil, environmental and/or river engineering works and of CDM regulations
  • Experience in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience in the design and specification of civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementation of the CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Experience in the design and specification of ground investigation works.
  • Experience and knowledge of civil engineering contracts and their administration.
