Broster Buchanan are excited to be supporting a really entrepreneurial business based in North Cambridgeshire in their search for their first Finance Director. This is a confidential search and therefore more detail will be provided once an NDA is signed. The Finance Director will need to be very detail focused with the ability to dig into the costs and contracts in the business to create a stronger base upon which the next phase of growth / acquisition can be built.  The CEO is not afraid to invest to enable profitable and sustainable growth and this philosophy has been the bedrock of his growth strategy. The attributes required for a successful Finance Director are:
  • Consistently role model leadership behaviours which align with the  company values and drive that behaviour in others  
  • To be an active leader within the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategy, direction & performance of the overall business, ensuring that the organisation meets it's in year financial targets and its future growth aspirations. 
  • To interpret and share valuable and timely insight from financial reporting and costing systems that informs decision making across the business to drive our profit and growth ambitions.  
  • To challenge current assumptions and perceptions of the commercial environment and identify new commercial opportunities and hold their colleagues to the delivery of those opportunities.   
  • Ensure all statutory reporting requirements are accurate and delivered in a timely manner. 
  • To maintain a control and reporting environment that provides high levels of accuracy, strong governance, secure assets, protects investments and manages risk. Creates and maintains associated KPI's/measures/reporting systems. 
  • To deliver core finance processes e.g. budgeting / cash flow forecasts 
  • To champion the effective use of business processes  
  • Develop effective costing systems to enable accurate and rapid understanding of Customer profitability and therefore drive better decision making in the business.
  • To lead an effective team via the setting of measurable objectives, regular reviews of performance and the opportunity/plans to develop skills and careers  
  • To foster a culture of growth, high performance and continuous improvement  
To apply for the role you will need to be: 
  • Fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) ideally within a commercial organisation that is ideally in an environment that is fast moving and ever changing. 
  • Strong and established track record in Finance, either heading up a Finance function or extensive experience across business operations, both Commercial & Supply Chain. 
  • Strong technical competence to ensure all aspects of financial management and control are in place with the right level of rigour.   
  • Able to demonstrate experience of trusted partnering with key stakeholders to provide counsel, challenge thinking, and identify/explore alternative solutions whilst remaining sufficiently independent to hold them to account.  
  • The critical thinking and problem-solving capability necessary to resolve multi-faceted business challenges and to spot trends and opportunities  
  • The ability to cut-through multiple projects and challenges to identify and deal effectively with the causes of issues rather than the symptoms  
  • The ability to inspire, build and lead teams to get the best out of those around them and evidence of effective development of talented individuals.  
  • A track record of delivering results – understanding of how to marshal and align cross functional/business resources to get things done and with effective cross-business collaboration  
  • High levels of emotional intelligence 
  • High levels of integrity, which fosters trust
