UKAEA is leading the drive to put fusion energy on the grid, to give the world a new form of long-term, sustainable low-carbon electricity. At their sites at Culham, Oxfordshire and Rotherham, South Yorkshire, they have a rapidly growing workforce to fulfil their expanding programme of research, focused on delivering the UK's first fusion prototype power plant by 2040.

To provide professional Systems Engineering services primarily within the STEP programme, but potentially also across a range of UKAEA projects.

The post holder will be concerned with the development and management of the design and realisation of complex systems and must be able to demonstrate an ability to deal with ambiguity and the application of systems engineering to emergent technologies.

They are required to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the System Engineering toolkit and bring with them the practical experience of having applied these in a range of different situations.

They will develop and implement policy and guidance on best practice, as well as producing technical reports and ensuring adherence to accepted standards, through their own work and peer reviewing the work of others.

They are typically responsible for the formulation, implementation and often management (within a project) of systems engineering tools, processes and data that govern the technical work of system development; typical key areas include requirements capture and management, system architecture development, Functional Analysis, concept generation and evaluation, interface identification and management, subsystem procurement, system verification and technical risk.

The role sits within the Systems Engineering Group (SEG).
SEG sits within the Integrated Design Unit, which sits within the Integrated Engineering Division.

Experience & Qualifications Required

A relevant degree in a recognised STEM subject or equivalent
Significant knowledge and experience of Systems Engineering
Demonstrable ability to grasp the basics of an engineering concept and explore wider implications
Previous experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams, developing complex systems
Significant experience of applying systems engineering
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Experience of a senior role in an engineering development activity
Demonstrable interpersonal skills and collaborative behaviours
Experience of interacting across a range of engineering disciplines e.g. mechanical, nuclear, electrical, software, Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) etc
Experience of embedding Systems Engineering processes into organisations
Familiarity with PLM solutions (e.g. 3DEXPERIENCE) and / or MBSE tools (e.g. Cameo Systems Modeler) would be beneficial
