Our client, a leading firm in the Defence and Security sector, is currently seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer for a contract position in Marlow. The Avionics Business Unit is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting a variety of products including Search & Rescue Direction Finders, Emergency Services Air to Ground Radios, and GNSS Anti-Jam equipment.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply extensive knowledge of electronics circuit design and development within a high-impact industry. You will engage with customers, support meetings, and participate in systems integration and product verification/validation trials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership for the design and development of electronic sub-systems for the aerospace and defence market.
- Deliver project tasks to schedule, cost and quality while adhering to internal processes and best practice.
- Research, design, develop and prototype electronic solutions in support of product development.
- Characterise, test and down-select components for performance and cost.
- Schematic capture of mixed signal circuit design (Analogue, RF, and Digital) using Altium or similar.
- Test, characterisation and verification of prototype designs.
- Circuit simulation using LT Spice, Agilent ADS.
- Develop, write, and deploy software to aid evaluation of electronic devices or automate test equipment using C# or similar.
- Provide inputs to ensure designs meet requirements for manufacture utilising DFx and/or lean concepts.
- Use laboratory equipment such as VNAs, RF Spectrum Analyser, and Oscilloscopes to conduct measurements.
- Prepare documentation such as Technical Reports, Production Test Schedules etc.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in electronics design, testing, integration, and engineering.
- Good knowledge of current RF technologies, including low noise receiver design, PLL/Synthesisers, and digital attenuators.
- Understanding of RF Antenna Systems and Phase Array Antennas.
- Knowledge of GPS and its potential vulnerabilities is advantageous.
- Familiarity with common interface busses such as SPI, I2C, and PMBus.
- Proficiency in current high-speed digital technologies, including CPLD, Microprocessor, FPGA, and DDR Memory.
- Experience of deriving and capturing system level requirements.
- Experience in Project life-cycle delivery from bids to operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience of design or manufacturing within the aviation industry is advantageous.
Qualifications and Experience
- Team working ability and drive to deliver on time.
- C experience in an embedded environment.
- Experience with embedded processors and real-time operating systems.
- Proficiency in interfacing with hardware devices and peripherals.
- Solid understanding of software development life-cycles and processes.
- Experience of requirement analysis, software design and software architecture.
- Experience with source control tools such as SubVersion and Git.
- Self-starting, adaptable problem-solver.
- C++ experience and Object-Oriented Design is desirable.
- Familiarity with GUI/event-based design and issue-tracking tools such as Jira is beneficial.
- Knowledge of DO-178 and releasing software to production is advantageous.
