We are looking for an experienced School Business Manager to join a friendly and supportive primary school in Marlow.
As a School Business Manager, you'll provide strategic support to the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, and Governing Body. Your focus will span across financial management, human resources, and estates management.
The successful candidate will have previous experience within a school and a proven track record in Finance and HR. They will be driven, determined and solutions focused.
This is a permanent role, Monday to Friday 8am - 3:30pm (with some flexibility for the right candidate) with the option to work from home during school holidays.
Salary is £32,192 - £43,759 depending on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting procedures, including ordering, payments, bank operations, asset registers, and invoice preparation.
- Manage payroll services, annual budgets, and in-year forecasting.
- Ensure compliance with SFVS (Schools Financial Value Standard).
- Provide detailed management accounts to the Headteacher and governors.
- Negotiate contracts to ensure best value and manage grants, donations, and investment strategies.
- Use financial data and benchmarking tools to drive greater efficiency.
- Manage employment clearances (references, medical checks, child protection).
- Maintain the Single Central Register and confidential staff records.
- Oversee contracts, staff recruitment administration, and Workforce Census submissions.
- Address general HR queries and support the SLT with staff concerns.
- Monitor service contracts (e.g., security, heating, maintenance).
- Manage the letting of school premises and tendering for site development projects.
- Oversee ICT equipment, including software and support.
- Secure grants for facilities development and advise on insurance needs.
- Assist with compliance on Health and Safety legislation.
Skills/Experience
- A proven track record in finance and HR management.
- Strong organisational and IT skills to manage a varied workload efficiently.
- Previous experience in a school environment (essential).
