Interim Senior Accountant - Capital - Local Authority

About the Role:

We are working with a prestigious local government client seeking an experienced Senior Accountant - Capital to join their Finance & Resources team on an interim basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial health and strategic direction of a local authority by managing complex capital accounting and fixed asset processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Capital Accounting & Fixed Assets Management:
    • Technical accounting for capital expenditure, capital funding, and fixed assets.
    • Oversight of PFI schemes and associated accounting.
    • Implementation and maintenance of a fixed asset register.
    • Implementation of IFRS 16 (Leases).
    • Providing technical finance advice and support to the wider organisation.
  2. Trust Accounts & Audits:
    • Preparation of accounts for trusts associated with the council.
    • Managing and coordinating trust audits.
  3. Process Improvement:
    • Reviewing and enhancing accounting processes and procedures.
    • Proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing innovative solutions.

Key Requirements:

  • Fully qualified CCAB accountant (preferably CIPFA).
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior accounting role within a local authority.
  • Proven expertise in managing complex capital accounting and fixed assets.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 16 and PFI schemes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
