Legal Cashier

Duration:     Temporary (Likely to go permanent)

Location:     Derby

Pay Rate:    Negotiable depending on experience

Hours:         3 days per week

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Process client and office account transactions, including receipts, payments, and transfers. Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and comply with Solicitors’ Accounts Rules (SAR).
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations for both client and office accounts, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues promptly.
  • Assist with the preparation and posting of client bills. Ensure the accurate application of client payments and maintain an up-to-date billing ledger.
  • Ensure that client funds are handled in accordance with client care procedures and regulatory requirements. Ensure that all client funds are safeguarded.
  • Input financial transactions into the firm’s accounting software. Maintain accurate records and files for auditing purposes and ensure compliance with firm policies.
  • Assist with VAT calculations and submissions in line with legal accounting requirements. Support the preparation of reports and filings to regulatory bodies.
  • Provide excellent customer service, liaising with clients, solicitors, and other staff to resolve account queries or discrepancies.
  • Provide general administrative and financial support to the accounts department as needed, including assisting with month-end and year-end processes.

Ideal Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a legal cashiering or legal accounts role is essential. Familiarity with Solicitors’ Accounts Rules (SAR) is highly desirable.
  • AAT qualification or equivalent experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of legal accounting procedures and compliance requirements.
