Senior Finance Officer

Contract until July 2025

Location - Derbyshire (2 days a week in the office)

Rate - 20 - 27 per hour

Purpose of this role:

Manage the Business Partner delivery of a designated finance function ensuring requirements are met by the provision of accurate financial information in accordance with statutory requirements

Provide expert advice and support to a range of stakeholders in a finance service area ensuring value for money and protection of public funds.

Key relationships:

Line managed by a Senior Business Partner or Finance Manager.

Manage the allocated Finance team within the designated service area.

Provide expertise and guidance to Executive Directors, Service Directors, Senior Management and departmental management teams including the budget preparation and monitoring or the viability of initiatives.

Liaise with stakeholders countywide providing financial guidance, training and support to service specific staff.

Key result areas include:

Manage a team of finance professionals to ensure service delivery in accordance with Financial Regulations and both Council and Service Plan priorities to lead an effective service, responsive to the needs of the service area.

Act as lead expert in the specialised area of work, in line with service delivery requirements, understanding the impact on the stakeholders and the organisation.

  • Proactively contribute to the development of the finance service area, working collaboratively to design and deliver specialist training and development that provides technical advice and ensure those who work with the information are briefed to comply with legislative, regulatory, corporate and departmental policies.
  • Monitor performance and continuously review quality and effectiveness of systems and processes in order to achieve maximum efficiency and best value promoting a continual process improvement culture.
  • Responsible for the preparation, planning and monitoring of the revenue/capital budgets of designated service area as required by the Senior Business Partner or Finance Manager for inclusion in the future planning of the service and the organisation.

Prepare management information and financial reports, compiling statistics and analysing complex allocations and announcements to provide clear guidance.

Assisting in the preparation of bids for funding from external bodies and Grant claims.

Ensure mandatory reporting requirements are met and returns are completed in a timely manner.
