Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and detail-driven Mechanical Estimator to join our well-established, family-run Mechanical Services business. This role is integral to preparing competitive and accurate tenders for projects within the Design & Build sector of the Building Services Industry. The successful candidate will contribute to business growth while upholding our high standards of professionalism, integrity, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating & Cost Analysis: Develop precise cost estimates using our in-house Excel-based estimating system (experience with similar software is advantageous).

  • Supplier & Subcontractor Management: Request and evaluate quotations to ensure cost-effective solutions.

  • Technical Query Resolution: Address discrepancies between drawings and specifications by liaising with main contractors and clients.

  • Take-offs & Pricing: Extract quantities from drawings and schedules to generate accurate costings.

  • Tender Management: Maintain bid logs, track progress, and provide updates to senior management.

  • Site Assessments: Conduct occasional site visits to gather data for preliminary costing.

  • Sustainability & Compliance: A solid understanding of SBEM, Thermal Models, SAP, BRUKL, and BREEAM targets to ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Proposal & Documentation: Prepare concise and professional tender letters, contractor proposals, and qualifications.

  • Client Engagement: Attend mid-tender and post-tender meetings and occasionally contribute to formal tender presentations as part of a project team.

  • Value Engineering: Propose innovative and cost-effective solutions to enhance bids and provide added value to clients.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Qualifications: BTEC Building Services HNC (or equivalent).

  • Software Proficiency: Experience using estimating software 

  • Industry Experience: Proven track record in a similar mechanical estimating role.

  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of cost management, procurement, and value engineering principles.

  • Communication & Documentation: Ability to produce clear, articulate reports and effectively liaise with clients and internal stakeholders.
