AR642 - HVAC Design EngineerLocation: MelkshamSalary: £45,000 - £50,000Overview:First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer and Estimator on behalf of one of our clients.As a Design Engineer / Estimator, you will be responsible for estimating and interpreting consultant specifications regarding heating, ventilation, chilled water systems and air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems. Be confident to generate mechanical designs from scratch following site visits or information following site surveys, carry out initial designs, heat load calculations and represent in AutoCad format along with scoping documents. Working alongside company owner, you will ensure the efficient and accurate organisation, processing, and timely completion of tender returns. This role is not just a sat behind your desk estimating role as it will also entail meeting clients, building relationships, and carrying out site visits as part of the estimating process. Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration. Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Review and assess the tender documentation and requirements to enable production of successful tenders. 
  • Obtain a suitable number of competitive quotations and compare on a like for like basis. 
  • Ensure that tenders consider health and safety, quality and environmental legislation as well as compliant with the main contractor's policies and procedures. 
  • Produce accurate net estimates with full breakdowns for adjudication. 
  • Seek value engineering & advantage through tender process. 
  • Arrange site surveys with clients and book these in via individual diaries. 
  • Send out quote requests and chase supplier quotes. 
  • Research new suppliers and agree on discount structures/pricing agreements etc. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  •  5 + years’ experience HVAC/Mechanical estimating 
  • HNC/HND/BEng in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Must have estimating experience within the HVAC market sector
  • Excellent knowledge of the M&E industry 
  • The ability to work with and explain complex technical drawings in a clear manner
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent time management and planning skills
  • Commercial awareness, Interpersonal skills, particularly in negotiating 
  • Ability to cope with pressure and adapt to situations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Strong IT skills, especially Microsoft Office 
  • Self-starter and able to work autonomously.
