GBR Recruitment are working exclusively with a well established & highly progressive steel & civils construction business recruiting for an experienced Junior Buyer who is looking to advance their buying career in an established procurement team that is expanding due to continued business wins.

Some level of previous buying / purchasing / procurement experience is ideal.

As a buying / procurement professional you will possess excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail & strong proficiency in Excel & other IT systems (ERP systems etc.).

In this key buyers role, you will be responsible for playing your part in sourcing required materials for stock & for site construction projects, plus the hiring of required plant machinery, plus any other items / services for various UK wide contracting works across steel construction, civils & groundwork's, plus renewable energy (solar) projects, as well as supporting the internal production workshop with all their purchasing activity.

Duties:

  • Source services, plant machinery & required construction materials for UK based sites & the on-site steel fabrication workshop / factory.
  • Proactively negotiate best terms with suppliers (product costs, quantities & delivery timescales, plus ideally volume rebates / discounts).
  • Raise & issue purchase orders complying with the company procedure.
  • Coordinate site bookings, produce schedules of delivery, plus reschedule delivery dates when required.
  • Effectively resolve any supplier or customer queries.
  • Update supplier records inc. material pricing.
  • Support estimating for tenders & assist with any contract negotiations.
  • Drive process & overheads improvements, identifying cost-savings.
  • Monitor, manage & report on supplier performance.
  • Actively source new suppliers when needed.
  • Carry out effective cost analysis & look to improve supplier terms.
  • KPI reporting, to measure progress against company targets.
  • Build strong, long term, beneficial supplier relationships.
  • Develop your relevant construction / renewable energy industry knowledge.

Ideal Attributes:

  • Experience in construction contracting (sub-contracting &/or main contractor), civil engineering & groundwork's, steel production / fabrication, renewable energy (solar) or other electrical industries.
  • Used to buying a variety of services, materials, consumables, plant machinery (hire) & other items within a similar industry sector.
  • Strong administration & computerised systems experience (ERP etc).
  • Used to buying for multiple sites (ideal not a must).
  • Strong professional communicator (telephone, email & face to face).
  • Career development focused, wanting to grown in a buying role.

This role is well situated to commute from: Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire & other parts of the East Midlands.
