Working Days and Hours:
- 37.5 hours per week, shifts to be confirmed on recruitment.
Pay Rates:
Monday to Friday any hours worked from 6am to 8pm: 18.50 paye inclusive of holiday per hour
Monday to Friday any hours worked from 8pm to 6am: 23.50 paye inclusive of holiday per hour
Job Purpose:
As a Senior/Diagnostic Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for the efficient maintenance and repair of our fleet of vehicles, ensuring they remain in a safe and operational condition to support the high-paced delivery of 24/7 healthcare services.
You will utilise your advanced technical skills and expertise to maximise vehicle availability by independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex mechanical and electrical issues across a range of vehicles, including ambulances, patient transport vehicles, and administrative vehicles.
Experience:
- Considerable experience of service, maintenance and repair of a broad range of vehicles in a busy environment working to required timescales and standards
- Full use of up-to-date servicing and diagnostic electronic equipment
- Good physical co-ordination and manual dexterity
- Satisfactory written and verbal communication skills, able to convey information and complete all necessary documentation accurately
- Full driving licence with a maximum of 3 points
- C1 Driving License (Desirable)
Knowledge:
- Sound knowledge of current Risk/Health & Safety requirements in the workshop
- In-depth knowledge of service, maintenance and repair of a broad range of motor vehicles, including manufacturers standards & requirements
- Auto-electrical diagnostics and repair processes
- Specialist knowledge across a wide range of practices and procedures in relation to vehicle chassis and vehicle body manufacturers (including engines, brakes, suspension and electrics)
- Competent in modern IT systems
Desirable criteria:
- Detailed knowledge of Fleet workshop Policies, Procedures and Practices
- Good knowledge of operational structures, processes and activities within the region
- Knowledge of financial and administrative procedures, including stock control, standing order arrangements, ordering of supplies and payroll processes
- Detailed knowledge of relevant vehicle specifications and specialist equipment
- Welding and fabrication techniques and procedures
- MOT tester
Qualifications:
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in automotive studies achieved through modern apprenticeship/time served qualified equivalent or equivalent qualifications that evidence similar level of professional knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Professional knowledge acquired through HNC level plus specialist knowledge or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through courses and experience which entail the following in depth training: Substantial experience, vehicle defects, ongoing training vehicle diagnostic courses, MOT tester qualification class 4 & 7
