Generator Service Engineer – Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Small Works Manager, as the Generator Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the routine servicing of clients' generators and associated equipment. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing minor, intermediate, and major service and maintenance on diesel generators (50 kVA to 3 MVA) and synchronising sets
- Conducting load bank testing, off-load testing, and black building testing
- Performing welding, general mechanical fitting, and steel pipe fitting
- Conducting site surveys and collaborating with customers to ensure high-quality service
- Acting as a company ambassador while on customer premises, ensuring professionalism and excellent customer relationships
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing faults on generators and associated control systems
Generator Service Engineer - About You:
We are looking for someone with a strong background in generator servicing who is self-motivated and able to work under pressure. You should have:
- Experience with engine strip-down and rebuild (desirable)
- In-depth knowledge of diesel generators, including FG Wilson, SDMO, Pramac, Perkins, and MTU models
- Familiarity with PLC-based control systems such as Deep Sea, ComAp, and Dief
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles, including coolant, lubrication, fuel, starting, battery charging, and warning systems
- Experience with generator peripheral equipment, including louvre control, fire systems, and alarm systems
- Ability to perform on-site risk assessments and adhere to health and safety standards
- Apprenticeship-trained diesel fitter with at least 5 years of relevant experience servicing diesel and gas engines
- Strong electrical, mechanical, and fitting skills
- Excellent IT skills for reporting and documenting work
- Knowledge of the 17th/18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations
- ECS, CSCS, and IPAF certification
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve on-site
- A high level of personal fitness for this manual role
