Rotherham Council are looking for seven Waste Management Operatives to join our team on a full-time, temporary basis for the next 2-3 months. This role is crucial in delivering a quality environmental cleansing, maintenance, horticultural, and grounds maintenance service across the borough. The successful candidates will work as part of a team or individually and will be required to work flexibly across other services such as waste and highways to support service delivery needs.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Carry out environmental cleansing, horticultural, and grounds maintenance work, including emptying bins, removing litter, weed growth, and handling waste materials.
  • Operate, secure, and check powered tools, plant, and equipment, reporting any defects and maintenance issues.
  • Ensure the security of vehicles, buildings, and resources, including carrying out vehicle checks.
  • Provide directions and general assistance to the public.
  • Report accidents, damage to property, street defects, and assist in enviro-crime enforcement operations.
  • Assist with the delivery of campaigns, events, and initiatives.
  • Direct trainees, seasonal employees, or volunteers assisting with operations.
  • Complete daily and weekly record sheets and forms.
  • Work in accordance with safe systems of work, health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant timescales and standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and experience of environmental cleansing, horticultural, or grounds maintenance work.
  • Experience in the operation of using powered tools, plant, and equipment.
  • Experience of manual working in an outdoor environment.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements.
  • Understanding of environmental issues.
  • Ability to work in an environment where literacy and numeracy skills are essential.
