The Role

As an Ophthalmic Imaging Technician, you will work closely with patients, clinicians, and other medical professionals to provide high-quality imaging services. From Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to retinal fundus photography, your work will be integral to diagnosing and monitoring eye conditions. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality ophthalmic imaging services for clinical diagnosis, records, teaching, and research purposes.
  • Operate a variety of imaging equipment, including OCT systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Maintain and clean imaging equipment, following departmental protocols.
  • Assist patients during imaging procedures, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and understanding of the process.
  • Liaise with Clinical Photographers, Ophthalmologists, and Nursing staff to meet service deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies, including confidentiality, data protection, and health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in audits, professional development, and training opportunities to maintain and enhance expertise.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the department by maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for patients and staff.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge and Experience:
    • Ability to work to deadlines and follow protocols.
    • Understanding of patient needs and expectations in a clinical environment.
    • Experience working in a team and autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Skills and Attributes:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and courteous manner.
    • Strong coordination and sensory skills for using imaging equipment.
    • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and manage time effectively.
    • Flexibility to accommodate clinic schedules, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekend work.
    • Commitment to high standards, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Experience handling difficult or sensitive situations with patients.
  • Familiarity with policies related to consent, image storage, and confidentiality.
