We are seeking a dedicated Waste Operations Manager to oversee and manage the waste management unit, ensuring efficient, compliant, and customer-focused service delivery. This role is crucial for leading the waste management team and ensuring that all operations align with regulatory standards and council policies.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Leadership & Management: Lead the waste management team, handle HR matters, health & safety, and performance management.
  • Service Delivery: Monitor and control operational service delivery to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Financial Management: Manage budgets and ensure financial targets are met.
  • Procurement & Contracts: Oversee procurement and management of both internal and external services.
  • Customer Service: Maintain high-quality, customer-focused service delivery.
  • Planning & Reporting: Prepare service plans, action plans, and produce detailed reports and management information.
  • Partnerships: Develop strategic partnerships and collaborative working arrangements.
  • Regulation & Compliance: Control and regulate activities impacting the unit to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience: Significant management experience in waste services, including leadership, HR management, and working with external agencies.
  • Education: Level 7 qualification (e.g., Post Graduate Certificates/Diplomas) or equivalent experience.
  • Skills: Effective communication and negotiation, decision-making, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and planning.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to travel within the Borough, good attendance record, adherence to Council policies, and safeguarding responsibilities.
