Imperial Recruitment Group are delighted to announce that we are working exclusively with a long-established engineering organisation to recruit a Structural Design Engineer on a permanent basis.LOCATION: MiddlesbroughSALARY: CompetitiveBASIS: PermanentROLE SUMMARY:As a Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and enhancement of our cutting-edge lifting equipment products, adhering to relevant European Standards. Your expertise will contribute to the creation of safe, efficient, and reliable lifting solutions that meet our customers' diverse needs and surpass industry standards.DUTIES ARE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:Engineering Design:

  • Carry out site visits, meetings and maintain communication with clients from concept and enquiry stage to completion of projects.
  • Lead and manage technical aspects of projects from design stage to fabrication detailing, ensuring compliance with relevant British Standards (e.g., BS EN 13155, BS EN 13001).
  • Utilise CAD software to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for the manufacturing process.
  • Utilise STAAD.Pro to carry out structural analysis to relevant Eurocodes. In-house training will be provided.
  • Oversee the design process, ensuring that project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

Project Commercial Responsibility

  • To take ownership of project costings from a technical perspective in collaboration with the sales department
  • To ensure projects are carried out on time and within budget
  • To support overall estimate of project costs and deliverables

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and sales, to ensure seamless integration of design processes into the overall project plan.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, presenting design concepts and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Participate in project review meetings, incorporating feedback to refine and optimise product designs.

Documentation and Technical Support:Support the preparation of comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, instructions for use, assembly instructions, and project reports, while incorporating relevant standards requirements.Provide technical support to internal teams and external stakeholders, addressing project-related queries and concerns.Research and Development:

  • Work to improve the company’s technical capacity by working on design methodology, development of product range and optimisation of design processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in lifting equipment technology and relevant standards.
  • Proactively seek innovative solutions and design improvements to enhance product performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while maintaining adherence to applicable standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil & Structural Engineering or a related field, with emphasis in steel design.
  • Proven experience as a Design Engineer, preferably within the lifting equipment or heavy machinery industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools. The candidate must be able to carry out 3D modelling. Training can be provided for the use of Inventor.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of BS EN 1993-1-1:2005.
  • Ideally, the candidate is familiar with relevant British Standards related to lifting equipment, such as BS EN 13155 and BS EN 13001.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused approach to work.
