Thrive and Personal Development Tutor (TTE)

Location: Middlesbrough

Salary: £22,872.24 - £24,401.52 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week (Term Time Only - 38 weeks)

Job Purpose: As part of the growth of the TTE provision within the College’s Group, they are developing a new role to support our students with their personal development and progression support. The role will be pivotal in developing young peoples’ aspirations, supporting them to display positive behaviours and attitudes, thrive delivery and supporting learners into employment, HE or an apprenticeship.

The role entails the following: delivering weekly informative and highly relevant IAG to each tutor group; offering advice, guidance and support to enable students to be prepared for progression to apprenticeship or HE, supporting the monitoring and management of attendance and behaviour issues; liaising with parents/guardians / employers where necessary; and preparing students for their next steps (including overseeing UCAS applications, CV scrutiny and apprenticeship interview support including work placement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver TTE Thrive Tutorial sessions that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
  • Employ a variety of techniques and resources consistent with evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning, which meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Work with a caseload of students to offer regular 1:1 meeting, support sessions and mentoring opportunities.
  • Be prepared to offer enrichment opportunities for students in line with Middlesbrough College Group’s standards and to develop students’ Personal Development beyond the curriculum.
  • Implement Middlesbrough College Group’s Core Values through the delivery of the teaching and learning strategy.
  • Utilise systems effectively to help manage attendance and behaviour in line with standards and expectations.
  • Promote numeracy and literacy in all teaching and learning practices.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by Middlesbrough College Group and any statutory regulators including but not limited to Funding Bodies and / or Government Departments.

Implement all College policies and procedures governing student life and conduct.

  • Make provision for being available to students and / or to their parents for education-related purposes outside of the teaching day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across all areas of the organisation.
  • Actively participate in all professional development opportunities including relevant academic or sector related updating.
  • Be enthusiastic, dynamic, committed and well organised.

Requirements

  • To hold a relevant Degree, or equivalent.
  • GCSEs at Grade C / Level 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Careers/Advice & Guidance qualification - Desirable
  • Coaching/Mentoring qualification - Desirable
  • Teaching qualification (or willing to work towards completion)- Desirable
  • Relevant experience in an educational (or similar) setting.
  • Experience of working with young people or providing guidance to students
  • Effective liaison with external agencies - Desirable
  • Experience of providing pastoral support, e.g., personal tutor, apprenticeships, wellbeing support to learners - Desirable.
  • Knowledge of the range of courses offered in Post 16 education that are progression routes for students studying at TTE.
  • Knowledge of careers information, advice and guidance
  • Knowledge of Higher Education, Apprenticeship, and other study routes beyond TTE.
  • Current knowledge of the Ofsted EIF, and the impact of this on Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based research/best practice in teaching, learning and assessment. - Desirable
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and presentation skills
  • Be able to multi-task and demonstrate good time management
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff
  • The ability to prepare high quality materials for taught tutorial sessions including the effective use of Information Learning Technology supported by key software (Office 365).
  • Be able to communicate positively with key stakeholders, including parents, students and employers where necessary
  • Ability to work with young people
  • Ability to be work under pressure in a fast-paced demanding environment
  • Have the ability to seek positive solutions and work flexibly
