Company Overview: MGT Teesside biomass power station is one of the largest biomass plants built and capable of generating (c299MWe) - The site is supported by a CfD agreement running until 2035. The power station has gone through a period of outage to resolve a number of technical issues. Having completed the review and remediation work, the plant was restarted in July 2023 and progressed through the final commissioning phase. The plant is now in a phase of sustainable operations.
Role Overview:
We are seeking to appoint an Operations Process Engineer with a proven ability to deliver operational excellence. This role will be pivotal to help drive the project forward from a sustainable operational phase into full commercial operation.
The role will require you to work primarily with the owner's management team, the role is focused upon ensuring operational excellence across the site from the quayside to the grid providing you opportunity to manage an array of advanced technologies, and all that is involved in managing the MGT Teesside biomass power station.
You will be required to provide technical, operational and process engineering support to ensure safe, compliant and efficient Operations and ensure all operational assets are managed in an optimised manner.
Duties are but not limited to:
• To provide technical justification for projects, risk mitigation and budget development cycle to align annual outage events and an annual operational budget. • Represent the company as a technical expert in discussions with external organisations and stakeholder. • Monitor and control the variable costs budget for the plant to highlight areas of inadequate performance.• To provide guidance to the O&M teams to assist rectification of availability, efficiency, and reliability issues. • To liaise with key regulatory bodies such as EA on all operational issues. • Benchmarks operations to ensure performance is best in class. • Demonstrate the appropriate behaviours and commitment towards health and safety to ensure we maintain our first-class safety culture. • Identify and implement improvement strategies to optimise asset performance against annual operating budget.• Ensure adequate and relevant technical information is available to the operations teams to facilitate safe and efficient operation of asset. • Carry out Root Cause Analysis of problems detracting from efficiency, reliability or availability. • Identify, evaluate and propose operational improvement projects. Establish, direct and motivate multi-functional project teams to deliver improvements.• Where appropriate (size and cost), support the implementation of operational improvements. • Work closely with the internal business functions to ensure clear and concise communications and minimise disruption to site operations• Work with an array of technical advisors and other plant personnel to optimise operations to achieve plant KPIs. • Support MGT risk management process, particularly any relevant procurement or construction risks.• Review and monitor key performance indicators within the business and advise operations management on achievement and improvement of these indicators.• Coordinate, lead ad-hoc / specific operational issues as required.• Maintain awareness and evaluate the impact of technological advances and future trends in order to better advise the business on improvement opportunities.• Contribute to the development of business strategy by providing technical proposals and plans for improvement in asset performance and compliance with business permits and consents.• Originate and deliver projects and lead major studies into the improvement of plant operations and compliance through improved use of technology and control.
To be considered for the role you will have:• Previous experience of large-scale combustion plant or similar. (Including auxiliary plant, Water treatment, solid fuel/materials handling, Steam Turbines)• Construction and CDM - major construction. • Ability to manage, direct and drive projects from concept to installation and testing. • Has knowledge of environmental compliance and demonstratable experience of liaising with legal authorities. • Has experience in asset management, life cycle maintenance strategy, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. • Degree qualified in a technical discipline (Process/Process Engineering) • Strong analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking.• Wide experience of process plant operations and maintenance.• Excellent communications skills to present to key stakeholders and external agencies. • Good commercial awareness and understanding of fixed and variable costs.• Project management• Good influencing skills• Strong results orientation
