Whilst retaining and developing its traditional offering it has also recently been selected as the Tees Valley hub of the North East’s Institute of Technology A new concept providing higher technical training through collaboration between further and higher education and employers. The funding secured through the Institute of Technology has been invested in extending the College’s STEM Centre, the latest expansion of the Middlesbrough College group, bringing a range of academic, technical, and vocational training opportunities to learners across the region.

Job Purpose:

The Mechanical Team Leader- Facilities will actively oversee incoming reactive tasks, ensuring the delivery of a professional, efficient, and effective service while maintaining compliance with all statutory and non-statutory maintenance obligations. The role reports directly to the Deputy Estates Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team, scheduling work activities effectively.
  • Oversee mechanical fault finding and first-response duties across the College.
  • Ensure all statutory and non-statutory maintenance requirements are met.
  • Contribute to capital projects and advise on estates-related issues.
  • Support department apprentices and manage contractors as needed.
  • Actively participate in continuous professional development and contribute to improving the College’s environment.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all.

Person Specification:

  • Relevant Level 3 technical qualifications in Mechanical Discipline or equivalent.
  • Experience in mechanical fault-finding and managing technical teams.
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments, CMMS, and Health and Safety procedures.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to work towards IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH Certificate, and ILM First Line Manager qualification (desirable).
  • Full, clean driving license (desirable).
