Assessor/Tutor in Information Advice and Guidance - Hourly Paid

Location: Middlesbrough

Salary: NSG Business Support, Hourly paid, £13.67 - £30.61 per hour inc holiday pay

Hours: Monday - 6 hours per week teaching plus assessment in the workplace.

Annual Leave: 30 per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays, Pro rata.

Pension: NEST Pension Scheme

Job Purpose: The Assessor/Tutor is responsible for a caseload of learners participating in training. Contributing to the design and delivery of learning programmes and assessments, to enable participants to successfully achieve their qualification. Assessors/Tutors liaise closely with Employers and have a key role in developing learners to achieve their learning goals and inspiring them to overcome barriers.

Adult and Community Learning provide skills, training or upskilling to those unemployed or those on a low income to meet skills gaps identified within the Tees Valley area. A lot of adult learners have not been in an education setting for many years. The department offers skills in areas where assistance is needed to fill recruitment vacancies (BELPS). The department also offers Distance Learning (DL), Functional Skills, GCSE, ESOL, Multiply, Bootcamps and a small 16-18 offering. The department was graded as "Outstanding" in a recent OFSTED inspection, ACL has grown year on year to continue to support the wider community.

Key Responsibilities

  • To plan, conduct and participate in induction and initial assessment of learners to identify realistic learning priorities and, in liaison with the employer, develop individual learning plans and agree realistic completion targets. This will include ensuring that employers have a full understanding of the requirement for Learners to complete off the job training.
  • To develop, manage and maintain good relationships with external partners, local employers and appropriate agencies to recruit learners.
  • To provide information, advice and guidance to learners and employers to promote learning and timely achievement of the agreed learning aims and SMART objectives.
  • Assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours, and the delivery and assessment of Functional Skills and competencies within the programme.
  • To maintain a minimum caseload of learners. Assist them to achieve NVQ qualifications and the Qualification Standard, and prepare them for End Point Assessment.
  • Develop business with existing employers and identifying new opportunities.
  • To work in a team to plan and deliver a structured scheme of work and develop lesson plans that meet the learning needs of learners and the delivery and assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • Support the continued evaluation of learning needs and objectives, through regular review and attendance as required at best practice groups.
  • To comply with the contractual standards with emphasis on recruiting participants, managing retention and achievements.
  • To establish a purposeful learning environment, where learners feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
  • To meet targets and support the organisation in the delivery of its’ corporate strategy.
  • In consultation with the employer, monitor and review learners’ progress in the workplace to ensure the achievement of qualification standards.
  • Achievement and progression rates as per contractual requirements.
  • Accurate and Timely completion of paperwork (e.g. Learner Contact Reports, Reviews, Questionnaires, and enrolment documentation).
  • Minimum level of unfunded learners.

Requirements

  • Level 6 Information Advice and Guidance - Essential
  • English and Maths GCSE grade C or above- or equivalent - Essential
  • TAQA or A1 assessor qualification, or willing to work towards- Essential
  • Teaching qualification- Essential.
  • Award in Internal Verification or V1, or willing to work towards - Desirable.
  • Practical occupational experience as required by Code of Practice and relevant awarding bodies.
  • Experience of working in a commercial setting
  • Proven track record of consistently achieving performance targets.
  • Proven track record of imparting skills and learning to others.
  • Knowledge of monitoring subcontracted provision - desirable.
  • Must have use of a car and hold a current driving licence
  • Be able to work flexible hours and locations as required
