Empowering Learning are currently working with a SEN school in Middlesbrough who require a KS1 SEN Teacher to start February Half Term.

SEN Teachers

Special educational needs (SEN) Teacher's will have previous experience teaching SEN students and understand that the learning path may be different for each student.

By working as an SEN behaviour mentor, you should be prepared and ready to make an important and serious commitment to someone. You will spend a considerable amount of time with children who need you to show your faith and patience in their abilities, making the most of your sessions together.

Within this job role is it important to encourage the children to communicate with you, finding a way together to overcome any behavioural problems and progress in education. Some typical responsibilities could include, supporting pupils inside and outside the classroom, helping pupils increase their confidence and self-esteem and agreeing and writing action plans to deal with problems. By using your skills and previous experience you will make a remarkable contribution to many children's lives and future potential.

This role will involve:

  • Teaching & Supporting children with SEN needs such as ASD in small groups.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive manner.
  • High levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity when working with children.
  • Working with the team to ensure children receive the best possible educational experience.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have QTS
  • Have a creative approach to teaching and provide not only academic but also emotional and pastoral support to pupils.
  • The candidate will have outstanding behaviour and classroom management skills and will develop positive relationships with staff and pupils.
  • The teacher will be committed, dedicated and resilient, whilst understanding the reasons why children can display challenging behaviour and be able to de-escalate and support children proactively.
  • Support children in a non-judgemental, non-confrontational manner.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team and show initiative.
  • Demonstrate that they are effective teaching assistants that have a wealth of experience in supporting teaching, learning, SEND pupils and children that display complex and challenging behaviours.

Be able to deliver small group or 1:1 learning / social, emotional, and behavioural programmes to secure outstanding progress.
