Formulation Chemist Specialty Chemical Manufacturer - Middlewich, Cheshire
To continue the success and expansion of our business, a vacancy has arisen for a Formulation or Development Chemist with good formulation knowledge to spearhead a pivotal role in our Technical team. We are looking for an experienced chemist with well developed skills in chemistry, product development processes and an understanding of chemical regulations. This is a progressive role offering a breadth of opportunity across the wider team / business for anyone looking to further develop their skills both in and outside of the laboratory environment.

A leading manufacturer of foam control agents and chemical specialities including high performance lubricants, surfactants, surface coatings, release agents and silicone emulsions. Manufacturing chemical solutions in Cheshire for over 30 years and supplying customers across the globe with off-the-shelf products as well as bespoke solutions tailored to their unique requirements.
The Role :
Based at our Middlewich site the Formulation Chemist will play a critical role in researching, developing and improving our products and processes. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering against commercial briefs and ensuring new and existing products are compliant with necessary regulatory environments. You will be confident in interacting with customers, suppliers and other business functions to support new and existing product development.
Role Responsibilities :
- Lead the formulation of new and existing products, testing methodology development and scale up activities.
- Work with scientific partners/suppliers to scope new technologies and build internal expertise
- Deliver against commercial briefs ensuring adherence to costings, timings and regulatory compliance
- Lead new product development projects working closely with commercial, quality and production teams
- Utilise technical literature/intellectual property to help shape NPD pipeline
- Build understanding of regulatory environment of our products/applications and ensure development activities are compliant
- Build internal expertise to support resolution of formulation/product issues and as subject matter expert
- Provide technical support to commercial colleagues and customers directly
- Identify new technical/RM partners to deliver against company ambition on sustainable product solutions, value engineering and innovation delivery
- Preparation and organisation of laboratory research and field trial data for the generation of internal reports, external communications, technical data sheets and intellectual property
Qualifications and Skills :
- Bachelors Degree or higher in Chemistry
- Circa 5-10 years experience in formulation of new products in the speciality chemicals sector
- Experience in formulating with surfactant chemistries and emulsions
- Demonstratable experience of working effectively without supervision and delivering against tight timelines
- Knowledge/awareness of the chemical regulations arena
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Experience of working directly with customers to deliver technical solutions and support new product implementation
