Join our team as Senior Management Accountant

ICAEW Finance are an integral partner to the organisation by providing innovative financial solutions, enabling delivery of strategic objectives and guiding long-term financial sustainability.

Overall purpose of the role of Senior Management Accountant

Provision of financial information and commercial insight; supporting the Operating Plan process (including 3/5-year plans, budgets and forecasts) and performing a variety of month end processes and activities to ensure stakeholders have accurate and timely management information for aligned ICAEW departments.

Senior Management Accountant Responsibilities include:

Financial Reporting:

  • Ensure that the cost centres/ areas for which they are responsible are closed according to the month end timetable.
  • Preparation of month end reporting packs providing explanations for variances and the implications of such variances for future performance.
  • Creation of profitability reports for specific cost centres.
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting to support business needs as required.
  • Preparation, checking and posting of monthly journals.
  • Reconciling/ analysing Balance Sheet accounts for accrued and deferred income, accruals and prepayments.

Financial planning:

  • Full responsibility for budgeting and forecasting for specific cost centres including gaining good knowledge and understanding of the divisional staff costs/ FTEs, associated costs of sales and overheads.
  • Create budget and forecast papers, presenting to ICAEW senior management, which focus on the key issues and drivers of change, also at a level which enables other stakeholders to understand the issues.
  • Develop a good understanding of, and skill in using, the budgeting and forecasting tool to maximise its benefits and to support the direct reports in its use.

Financial analysis and decision support:

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to provide insights into business performance, trends, and variances against budgets and forecasts.
  • Identify key drivers impacting financial results and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Preparing complex financial analyses and reports for department management and the Managing Director
  • Participate in various ad hoc projects.

Process Improvement:

  • Work closely with the Finance Business Partner (FBP) to continuously review and enhance FP&A processes, tools, and systems to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement best practices in financial planning, analysis, and reporting to drive continuous improvement.
  • Streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting workflows to deliver timely and actionable insights.

General:

  • Ownership of own personal and career development through on-the-job coaching and up-skilling.
  • Acting as deputy for the FBP throughout the budgeting and forecasting processes ensuring a general understanding of the cost centres for which you are not directly responsible.
  • Act as key finance contact and natural go to person for specific cost centres but also as secondary point of contact for others, covering for colleagues.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and communication within the finance department and across the organization.
  • To ensure that any audit requirements emanating from either interim or final audit are met.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA)
  • High level of academic achievement / qualification
  • Prior experience of finance business partnering desirable
  • Monthly reporting experience essential
  • Experience of working in a commercial environment.
  • Numerate, articulate and logical.
  • Collaborative and customer service focused.
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide accurate figures whilst working to tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated
  • Keen to work in the ICAEW and understand the business areas.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills including Excel (e.g. lookups, sumifs, Pivot tables, PowerPivot, graphs) and ability to use Word, including embedding excel spreadsheets.
  • Ideally, experience of working with NAV and JET.
