Working as part of a team, Laboratory technicians are required to process samples in accordance to high quality standards and in line with laboratory processes.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Managing of samples from receipt through to sample processing and storage in line with laboratory processes. 2. Cleaning the laboratory.3. Report equipment/process issues in accordance with relevant SOPs.4. Working in accordance to laboratory SOPs and quality standards.5. Any other reasonable task.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:ESSENTIAL CRITERIA• Minimum 12 months experience of working in a laboratory environment in a similar role.• Good standard of general education GCSE maths or English (or equivalent).• Experience of working in a strict process environment (manufacturing/assembly). • Excellent attention to detail.• Ability to work and think methodically.• Pro-active attitude.• Ability to manage own workload and prioritise tasks.• Experience of working in a team to achieve an end goal.• Experience of working shift patterns.• Experience of training/mentoring others.• Experience of working to quality management standards. • Experience performing biological assays in a scientific research or diagnostic laboratory

DESIRABLE CRITERIA• Experience of sample processing • Experience of operating liquid handling systems• Awareness of the Human Tissue Act (HTA).• Experience of working in an ISO9001 (or equivalent) environment• Sound knowledge of molecular biology• Experience gained in a qPCR environment • Nucleic acid extraction experience• Experience of working within a high throughput sample processing environment
