About the Client:Our client is an absolute market leader in their field, renowned for delivering cutting-edge solutions in secure environments. They are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Infrastructure Engineer to join their team on a 100% remote basis. This role offers the chance to work in a highly technical and challenging environment, where you'll be tasked with designing, maintaining, and improving critical infrastructure.

The Role:As an Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining multiple remote networks to support the client's technical research, product engineering, and client-facing functions. This is a hands-on position, ideal for someone eager to take ownership of IT projects and collaborate directly with the engineering team to deliver lasting improvements.

You'll also be expected to assess and challenge existing infrastructure, offering expert insights into areas for improvement, while explaining the reasons behind the changes you suggest. The ideal candidate will have the confidence to consult with technical teams, understand their needs, and offer clear solutions to enhance the overall IT environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain remote networks for research, engineering, and client-facing needs.
  • Manage and implement IT projects to meet the client's operational goals.
  • Maintain corporate IT systems, including O365 administration.
  • Oversee production and development GitLab infrastructure to support engineering and product delivery.
  • Identify and manage IT security risks, providing solutions to mitigate potential issues.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure the IT infrastructure remains fit-for-purpose.
  • Provide consultancy to the engineering team to help solve problems and improve infrastructure design.
  • Critically review current infrastructure, suggesting enhancements and improvements.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies such as O365 and AWS.
  • Strong experience in a similar infrastructure role with excellent knowledge of Windows, Linux, and macOS environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure tools and languages, such as Docker and Python.
  • Experience managing physical and virtual servers, including patching, backups, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with virtual environments like OpenStack, VMware, and Hyper-V.
  • Strong ability to manage and secure VPNs.
  • Experience implementing local and network-based security controls, logging, and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with LDAP / Access Control Groups.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, automation, and orchestration for provisioning and configuration management.
  • Solid understanding of networking and infrastructure design principles.

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience working in secure environments or in security-focused roles.
  • The ability to critically assess existing infrastructure and suggest practical improvements with sound rationale.
  • A consultative approach, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering teams.
