Role OverWe are seeking a Principal Technical Architect to join our client's growing technology team. This senior role is essential for guiding the organisation's technology strategy and involves direct reporting to senior leadership. The Principal Technical Architect will oversee a team of technical architects, ensuring the design and implementation of modern technology solutions that align with strategic objectives. Additionally, this role will serve as a deputy to senior management, participating in high-level discussions and decision-making processes.Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Governance:
- Chair the Design Authority, ensuring that architectural standards are upheld, and best practices are communicated across the organisation.
- Supervise and mentor a team of technical architects, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance technology performance, availability, and reduce time to market.
- Architectural Development:
- Lead the development and implementation of an Enterprise Architecture Practice (EAP), including policies, processes, and reusable design patterns to minimise technical debt and improve user experience.
- Drive the creation of CI/CD (DevSecOps) capabilities, automating workflows to streamline transitions from non-production to production environments while ensuring security compliance.
- Implement advanced cyber defence mechanisms to address active risks and establish a zero-trust architecture across platforms.
- Oversee the transition to public cloud services, redesigning capabilities to leverage cloud-native features effectively.
- Technical Assurance & Engagement:
- Provide technical assurance across multidisciplinary teams, addressing complex business and technical challenges effectively.
- Engage in presales activities, designing solutions that meet client needs and presenting these solutions to stakeholders.
- Act as the technical lead for bids and ITT submissions, ensuring proposals are comprehensive, competitive, and aligned with client requirements.
What you'll need to succeed
- Active SC or be eligible to undergo a high level security clearance e.g. UK Citizenship
- Relevant industry certifications such as ITIL, AGILE, TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to develop and implement technology strategies and policies that align with governmental standards.
- Project experience in designing: migrations to public cloud environments (particularly with M365 and AWS), automation of platforms/products/services, server/operating system/network technologies, and VMware virtualisation platforms (such as VCF, VCD, VSAN, and NSX).
- Familiarity with SASE architecture, as well as Cisco and Palo Alto technologies, is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across various disciplines and stakeholders.
- Proficient in documentation and time management, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
- A thorough understanding of cloud technologies, including experience with Microsoft 365 and AWS, as well as knowledge of security frameworks and best practices.
