If you’re an Associate Specialist looking for a new substantive opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team in an established secure service setting, then come and work in the secure pathway with males and females at Chadwick Lodge in Milton Keynes. The job involves working across a combination of medium and low secure wards consisting of male and female patients.

 This role is open to full time or part-time (2 days per week).

This established service looks to continually innovate, improve and deliver excellent care for its service users, has an active programme of education and research and provides significant developmental opportunities for its staff.

There are currently four other Associate Specialists working in the service. There is no formal on-call commitment attached to the role, but there are opportunities to join the on-call rota through a locum agency which provides on-call services for the hospital.

When it comes to personal development, Chadwick Lodge has an active CPD programme and doctors have their own PDP peer group. Attendance at external CPD events like conferences is actively supported, and there are also external academic links with universities like King’s College, London, and Brunel University, where you will have the opportunity to be part of such links.

Any desire to work towards Section 12, AC approval or CESR application will be actively supported. The Consultants working in the service have close links with the RCPsych and are very familiar with the CESR process. There are also opportunities to network with other Associate Specialists working within Elysium who are at a similar stage of career development.

As an Associate Specialist, you will ensure the high quality first-line medical care of our inpatients, liaise effectively with external professionals and carers, provide written and oral evidence for Hospital Managers’ and Tribunal hearings, work towards safe discharges including preparing discharge summaries, reports and other necessary documentation and be a valued and effective member of the multidisciplinary team at Chadwick Lodge. 

Other Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearing reports under the supervision of Consultant.
  • Provide medical reports and attend CPA meetings to review care of patients with NHS England case managers and community care co-ordinators
  • Providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings under the supervision of the Consultant (Depending on your experience).
  • Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.
  • Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients are able to access appropriate medical cover at all times.
  • Providing prospective cover to other specialty doctors when they are on leave.
  • Liaising with GP and practice nurse regarding physical healthcare of patients.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams
  • To be in good standing for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • To be linked in with an appraisal/RITA process within the last year
  • At least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry
  • Experience working as a doctor within similar environment 
  • MRCPsych (desirable)
  • Section 12 (2) approval (desirable)
  • AC status (desirable)
