Job Description: Are you an experienced Benefits Assessor with a strong understanding of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction? Our client is seeking a dedicated Assessment Officer to join their Revenues & Benefits team on a fully remote basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Process applications for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, and Local Welfare Assistance efficiently and accurately.
  • Resolve customer enquiries via telephone, written correspondence, and online channels.
  • Provide welfare assistance advice and signpost customers to relevant support services.
  • Ensure customer Council Tax accounts are accurate and resolve any discrepancies affecting financial awards.
  • Identify and manage overpayments, ensuring appropriate recovery actions are taken or recommending write-offs where applicable.

Essential Requirements:

  • GCSE English and Maths (A – C) or equivalent.
  • Experience in assessing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims.
  • Strong knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction legislation.
  • Experience in using Capita Academy and/or NEC Northgate Revenues & Benefits systems.
  • Strong numerical skills with the ability to carry out financial calculations.
  • Customer-focused with experience in resolving queries effectively.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, ensuring high levels of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changes in a fast-paced work setting.
