We have an exciting opportunity to work within Animal health as our client is now recruiting an Associate Technician for the ASD and Paracox department within the Quality Control department. This is a full-time temporary position initially signed off for 1 year with a possible extension offering an hourly rate of £14.29 - £23.50, depending on experience, plus 25 days holiday pro rata and other benefits.

Purpose of the Role

  • To perform husbandry duties and support with animal procedures under Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act - {A(SP)A} as required for all animal units located on site.
  • To perform Paracox QC testing for finished product and intermediates for Paracox products manufactured onsite
  • This role involves the testing in accordance with GMP, dossier and relevant pharmacopoeia requirements.

Key Accountabilities and Duties

  • Perform routine husbandry practices, day to day feeding and cleaning of animal units.
  • Clinical assessment of animals, before and during tests, as per Home Office and GMP requirements.
  • Recording of information to comply with GMP and Home Office regulations.
  • Assist with regulated procedures as licensed by the Animals

(Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, as part of antigen and vaccine batch tests.

  • Schedule 1 euthanasia of relevant species.
  • Reporting of relevant information to the Senior Animal Technician/QC Management/Named Veterinary Surgeon/ Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer.
  • Paracox QC Testing (Oocyst counts) in accordance with SOP’s.
  • Raising of deviations in the Quality Management System and completion of non-investigative records.
  • Raising and completion of CAPA’s.
  • To maintain safe working practices at all times.
  • Completion and review of COSHH assessments.
  • Overtime in the form of evening, weekend and national holidays is required via a rota.
  • Ensure monthly safety audits are completed in a timely manner
  • Escalate any issues with the animal buildings to the Team Leader/SES Manager
  • To work within all areas of QC - including duties in other labs if & when required.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of GMP Compliance and Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986
  • Experience in Animal Husbandry essential
  • Experience with small animals procedures desirable
  • Experience with using a microscope.
  • Good working knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Ability to identify deviations and raise events in the Quality Management System desirable
  • Able to communicate at all levels and across all functions
  • Good Time Management in a high flow Animal unit/ Laboratory
  • Flexible approach to changing priorities
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate concise technical information with clarity
  • GCSE or equivalent in English, Mathematics and science
  • A Levels preferred, but not essential
  • Personal Home Office Licence a big advantage
